Syracuse students have a lot to look forward to this year when it comes to celebrity guests. They’ve already seen Childish Gambino and Calvin Harris (with special guest The Dean’s List). University Union has planned “An Evening with Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson” and surely everyone bought their tickets for the One World Concert with the Dave Matthews and Whoopie Goldberg.
….oh, and the Dalai Lama is going to be there too. It’s totally casual!
Those would be enough for any other university, right? Definitely! But reader, you forget that Syracuse students are like those muttation dogs from The Hunger Games; they’re relentless. It turns out that Syracuse University is one of six finalists for Kathie Lee and Hoda’s College Challenge for the Today Show. That means that the fourth hour of the show could be shot in the 315 if enough people tweet and vote for ‘Cuse.
As voting continues for the College Challenge, students are becoming significantly greedier. A group of students led by sophomore Will Stark have banded together to create a club competing with University Union called “’Cuse Coalition”. Stark tells Campus Basement, “I came up with the idea after reading Oliver Twist on SparkNotes. When he said, ‘please sir, may I have some more’ I realized that Syracuse students deserve more than just the Dalai Lama and two pre-menopausal women”.
The Cuse Coalition has made several demands since its conception two weeks ago. Campus Basement got the exclusive on the CC’s most important and high profile demand: the 2012 Presidential Debate! We’ve been told that Stark and his subordinates are currently in talks to have the debates changed from their scheduled locations to the Carrier Dome and are quite confident that they will succeed. Until debate confirmation, please keep voting for Syracuse on the link posted above because we deserve more than just a Tibetan Buddhist monk.
