Grammy-nominated hip-hop artist Nicki Minaj got into a heated Twitter fight with Syracuse University students yesterday after a student tweeted her asking if she would be performing at Block Party, a yearly concert event that takes place in the university’s Carrier Dome and holds upwards of 50,000 people.
Block Party has previously hosted such big name acts as Kid Cudi and Drake. Yet Minaj, never having heard of the event, assumed it was a literal block party. Ridiculing the Syracuse University community, she joked on Twitter, “Next Stop: niggaz backyards, dey bbq’s and bingo tournaments. Tour dates: to be released. I’m cryin real tears.”
Due to subsequent backlash from SU students, Minaj’s PR representatives have asked her not to take venue names so literally and to avoid using social media to publicly mock her fans.
Unfortunately, Minaj didn’t learn much from the incident. Today, she received a call from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell asking her to perform at the Super Bowl XLVII halftime show, scheduled for February 3, 2013.
Despite the fact she had just recently done this year’s Super Bowl with Madonna and MIA, Minaj apparently forgot and had a swift change of heart. “Ummm wat? HELL to the NO. I can’t fit in a bowl,” Minaj tweeted in response to the offer. “Next stop: niggaz plates, silverware, and tablecloths. I’m cryin real tears.”
She then proceeded to retweet more fans of hers mocking the event and likening it to performing at other common food storage-related household objects, such as plastic bags, aluminum foil, and Tupperware.
Minaj’s PR reps were last seen cryin real tears.
