Jason Russell, the face and voice behind the massively viral Kony 2012 video, was arrested in San Diego Friday afternoon after allegedly masturbating in public and vandalizing cars, presumably in a state of intoxication.

The Kony video was released through the civil rights organization Invisible Children, a group dedicated to exposing Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony and bringing him to justice for his violent crimes against children. To date, the Invisible Children film has been viewed over 80 million times.

Unfortunately for Russell, his newfound fame has led him to take his organization’s name a little too literally. Claiming he was “completely invisible just like those poor children in Africa,” Russell took to the streets to give himself a good old-fashioned pole polishing.

“I feel terrible about this whole thing,” Russell said as he was handcuffed and escorted to a police cruiser. “But this ‘Invisible Children’ deal was really catching on! I felt totally unseen, unheard,” he continued.

“What better way to take advantage of that than to unsheathe your pork sword in front of hundreds of unsuspecting strangers?”

Russell’s actions have put his campaign in a sticky situation, with Invisible Children activists repeatedly getting caught openly trying to steal money from cash registers, having sex with one another in unauthorized areas, and doing other stuff invisible people would do, all while continuing to maintain their focus on catching Joseph Kony through extensive Facebook and Twitter posts.

As he was taken away to the police station, Russell was optimistic. “Say what you will, but Invisible Children is making its cause known.”

“And a message to you, Mr. Kony: we’ll never stop until you’re caught, whether that means harassing all our Facebook friends or continuing to get arrested for punishing our flesh lizards in public.”
