Fox Entertainment Group announced on Wednesday that they had finally closed on talks with Connie Diekman, MEd, RD, LD, FADA, and are beginning production on a new television series to air this Winter, titled “Connie’s Choice.”

The series will be roughly based on the life of Diekman, best known for being the director of university nutrition at Washington University in St. Louis. “What’s so great about ‘Connie’s Choice’ is that we already have so much great material to build from,” said FX Director of programming Sam Barron. “Connie had provided us with dozens of DUC-table inserts detailing simple steps we can take to improve our diets!”
Each episode will be roughly based around one such tip, with Connie’s nutrition skills being used to save a character from a sticky situation. “I don’t want to give too much of the story away,” says Barron, “But in the pilot episode, let’s just say that Connie helps a college student get more whole grain in their diet by wrapping a wheat tortilla around a banana.”
“What’s exciting about working on ‘Connie’s Choice’ is that we have the opportunity to both tell great stories, while still finding room for education,” says Matthew Fields, who is directing the mid-season thrillride ‘Choose Beer or Sweets…But Not Both!’ as well as co-directing the Season 1 finale, ‘May is Leafy Vegetable Month.’
While FX has already cast many roles of the show, the choice of Connie has been kept closely under wraps. “I’m not at liberty to discuss who we’ve gotten,” says Barron “but let’s just say that Sandra Bullock fan’s won’t be disappointed.”
The pilot episode of ‘Connie’s Choice’ airs December 8 on FX.
